News, Notes and Quotes

NEWS FLASH:  Roman Rhodes will be playing with his other band SHRINE in Kuala Lumpur, February 16th, with Reika Kawakami on Cello, Fumihiko Sado on Violin, Nori-Shun Tsujimura on drums and of course vocals and guitar by Roman Rhodes.  The Pagans regular lives in Osaka will be cancelled at this time.

"See Artist also at..."/other-pagan-websites

Welcome all to our new Born Again Pagans website, celebrating the release of our new (4th)  album: Rains 1   Check it out here, CDBaby, iTunes etc.  And we’re now on facebook too.

Rains 1 although number VI is only the 2nd out in the Gods, Gates and Sweet Waters sextet, now in production.  Rains 1 is the natural follow up to the bar favorite Rivers and the critically acclaimed The Emergent Sea, called by IME “a feast for the ears, mind and spirit.”

This time round Roman Rhodes goes to his singer-songwriter roots and pulls up a powerful mix of political, love and environmental themes in a unique blend of North Americana folk with Asian and African world sounds producing his own unique Alternative World Roots music.

Erhu master, Koba Takahashi adds his eerily and stunningly beautiful Chinese instrument to the mix along with the talented trumpet players and composers Christopher Fryman and John Hulaton.  New Pagan bass player Frank Daulton brings a whole new energy, magic and tightness to the band, while renowned jazz drummer Larry Ransome add subtle percussion with jembe and dunbek.  West Virginian string genius Tim Wiltshire once again is back hitting all his honeyed notes and soaring the album into the magic places with banjo, slide and lead guitars.  And the talented Chika Togashi's ethereal voice soothes the music's powerful edge like a gentle rain after the storm.

Rains 1 is the Pagan's most powerful album yet. We look forward to Rains 2 by the end of the year.
